Donald Trump just threatened a civil war with fellow Republicans

President Donald Trump started Thursday by ripping off a warning shot on Twitter directed at the conservative House Freedom Caucus, saying that the group will “hurt the entire Republican agenda” if they continue to vote against the GOP majority in upcoming legislative proposals.

“The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!” the president tweeted just after 9am.

This is not the first time Donald Trump has taken to his social media bully pulpit to call out the Freedom Caucus.

The hard-liners ignored that tweet and continued to oppose his proposal to repeal and replace ObamaCare, leading to its eventual defeat.

Then on Monday, he made sure the public knew that the Freedom Caucus was solely to blame, tweeting “Democrats are smiling in D.C. that the Freedom Caucus, with the help of Club For Growth and Heritage, have saved Planned Parenthood & Ocare!”

There is a growing belief that if the Freedom Caucus doesn’t heed his warning this time, that he will reach across the aisle to see if he can get enough Democrats to work with him.

Some within the conservative group, however, have started to doubt the wisdom in blocking GOP legislation attempts. Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) quit the group after they shut down the healthcare bill, and Brian Babin (R-Texas) has said publicly he may also defect in the near future.

Including Babin, the Freedom Caucus currently holds a block of 29 member votes in the house.
